Corrective Chiropractic Care for Slouching/Forward Head Posture

Mommas have been telling their kiddos for years to stop slouching and to stand up straight. And once again, mommas have been right! But what makes slouching so bad?It causes anterior head carriage, aka forward head posture. Many times, when people spend long periods of time slouching while at their computer, driving in their car, or reading it causes changes to the structure of the neck. This has been a concern of chiropractors for years, and is a major concern of ours for our patients.Forward head posture can cause the cervical spine to lose its nice c-shaped curve. Years of this decreased curve may cause an enormous amount of issues for the person. In our office, one of the most common symptoms that we see associated with it is frequent headaches, but the list does not stop there.A newly published study discusses the consequences of the decreased cervical curve and forward head posture:

  • Accelerated cervical spine degeneration
  • Contributions to cervical myelopathies
  • Changes to proprioception
  • Contributions to neurodegenerative diseases

Yikes! Can it be restored? For many, yes! Corrective chiropractic care can help restore the c-shaped cervical curve, and help to stop further degeneration. Reference:Forward Head Posture and Decreased Lordotic Curvature of the Cervical Spine – The Potential Sequelae of Abnormal Alignment.
